№123915 Berdan Rifle 1868

The Russian Berdan I rifle, m1868. It was made by Russian Military order in New England (Colt Manufacture, Gartford) in the quantity of 30 000.

№ 5908.

The rifle was designed in the United States by Russian military representatives General Gorlov and Lieutenant Gunius, a native of the Livonia province.

The rarest Russian army rifle, shortened during existence. Similar operations were practiced with such weapons, as an example, the shortened sist rifle. Berdana No. 1 is presented in the Riga army Museum.

The rifle has the serial number 5908, which indicates that it is an early rarest version of this system. In total, 30 thousand rifles were produced at the Colt factory in the United States on a Russian order. Rifles of the first half of this release were constantly upgraded, from the period from the beginning of production to the 15 thousandth rifle, 35 changes were made.

Today, there are practically no such rifles with a serial number and a stamp of Russian military acceptance, which, together with the early serial number, allows us to speak of the highest historical significance of the presented sample and uniqueness as a collectible object.
