The order of the red banner was established to award for special bravery, selflessness and courage shown in the defense of the socialist Fatherland.
The order of the red banner is awarded to: military personnel of the Soviet Army, Navy, border and internal troops, employees of the state security Committee of the USSR (KGB) and other citizens of the USSR;
military units, warships, formations and associations.
The order of the red banner can also be awarded to persons who are not citizens of the USSR.
