Order of St. Anna, established in 1735 in memory of Peter the Great's daughter, Anna, by her husband, was introduced into the system of awards of the Empire by Paul I. This award was awarded for both state and military service. 4 degrees were provided, the youngest of them was intended to be rewarded for military merit.
