The medal "for distinction in military service" is awarded to servicemen of the Soviet Army, Navy, border and internal troops: for excellent performance in combat and political training; for special differences in exercises and maneuvers, during combat service and combat duty; for bravery, selflessness and other services rendered during military service. 1 degree number of ≈22000 PCs. 2 degree number of ≈100,000 PCs.
The medal was made in the form of a convex five-pointed star. Between the rays of the star are five shields with relief images of the emblems of the main branches of the armed forces. In the center of the medal is a medallion with a bas-relief with a profile image of a pilot, sailor and soldier. On the rim of the medallion is located on the circumference of the relief inscription "for DISTINCTION in MILITARY SERVICE" and two Laurel branches at the bottom. There are no images on the back.
Dimensions: the distance between the opposite vertexes of the star is 38 mm.
