The Russian Empire. A badge for persons promoted to ensign for military distinctions on the presentation of the command.
During the years of the First World War, 19622 people were promoted to ensigns, mainly from the lower ranks who had secondary education or literate (who did not have secondary education), as well as a small number of students of higher educational institutions.
The sign was a straight cross with the crown and monogram of Emperor Nicholas II, with superimposed swords, in the center a double-headed eagle with a shield on the chest and a cipher in the shield "SHP" (school of ensigns).
Bronze, silver plating, hot enamel. Size 48.56*38.6 mm.
