The Russian Empire. The Circassian saber is the so-called "Gurda" with a Genoese blade (the stamp of GENOA with three dots on both sides). The beginning of the 18th century. The work of Circassian or Chechen masters. The blade is probably older. The blade is slightly curved, with three wide lobes. On the upper part of the blade, the traditional Gurda symbol is two serrated half-crowns and between them the inscription in Italian "Geneva". There is a short lobe on the butt (145 mm). The handle (the horn of a large animal) and the device in the traditional style of the Caucasus and Persia are silver with black, a large floral ornament. The scabbard is wooden, covered with dyed ochre leather with a silver device.Blades with a similar pattern are characteristic of Genoese masters of the 17th and 18th centuries and were in great demand among Caucasian gunsmiths. An excellent and worthy subject. It will decorate any collection!!!
