The 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment led its history from January 5, 1798, when the Rochensalm garrison regiment was formed, it was also called the Garrison Regiment of Major General Bolotnikov. Renaming several times, received its real name on March 25, 1864. The centenary of the regiment was celebrated on January 5, 1898. He was a member of the 2nd Brigade of the 14th Infantry Division, deployed in the city of Bender, Bessarabian province.
