Established on January 22, 1850. The medal was awarded to generals, officers, lower ranks, classroom and medical officials, regimental priests and non-combatant ranks who took part in the defeat of the revolutionary troops in Hungary and Transylvania, which were then part of the Austrian Empire, in 1848 and 1849.
