№121301 Binnacle from old sailing ship

The Baltic States. 18th-19th century. An old marine device from a sailing ship - binnacle (from the Dutch nachthuis, "night house") - the box in which the ship's compass is located, as well as some other navigation tools. It is usually mounted on a stand or on a pedestal next to the steering wheel. At night , the compass was illuminated by candles or an oil lamp .

Light bronze. Size mm. Weight about 5 kg. The glass was removed (prepared by the barbarians for delivery to the landfill).
