The badge "Honorary Railwayman" was awarded by the People's Commissariat of Railways of the USSR (NKPS of the USSR) in the period from 1934 to March 1946, and later by the Ministry of Railways of the USSR (MPS of the USSR) from March 1946. The Ministry of Railways of the USSR (MPS of the USSR) is a union-wide ministry that managed railway transport in the Soviet Union and dealt with issues of the state and further development of railway transport, scientific and technological progress in the industry. The Ministry was responsible for the level of technical equipment of railways, the safety of train traffic, the safety and timely delivery of transported goods, luggage and mail, as well as for the full satisfaction of the country's needs in rail transportation.
