On July 8, 1916, by order No. 763 of the chief of staff of the Supreme commander-in-chief, the Stavka security battalion was renamed the Georgievsky Stavka security battalion. Under this order, the battalion began to be staffed exclusively by St. George's Cavaliers - lower ranks and officers awarded the St. George's cross or the order of St. George. The battalion received its own banner, shoulder straps and cockade.
