The Order of the Patriotic War is awarded to members of the rank and file and commanding staff of the Red Army, Navy, NKVD troops and partisan detachments who showed bravery, fortitude and courage in the battles for the Soviet Homeland, as well as military personnel who contributed to the success of the combat operations of our troops.

The award of the Order of the Patriotic War is made by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The Order of the Patriotic War consists of two degrees: I and II degrees. The highest degree of the order is the First degree.
