№121649Politsei bayonet

Germany. Third Reich. Bayonet policeman. The manufacturer is the well-known company Weiersberg, Kirschbaum and K. Solingen. (WKC)

It was made on the basis of a police bayonet of the Weimar Republic period. The original bayonet was shortened (both the blade and the handle), the shell with the image of an eagle was removed from it and the police emblem on the handle was changed.

Almost all police bayonets of the Third Reich were made by modifying bayonets produced during the Weimar Republic. There are two main varieties of the bayonet version with functioning abutment systems (P.S.a - Polizeiseitengewehr, aufplanzbar) to the rifle and with purely decorative ones (P.S.n - Polizeiseitengewehr, nichtaufplanzbar). In addition, since the bayonet was produced by a large number of frequent companies, there are many variations in the finish and small details.

The bayonet blade is single-edged, with a lobe on both sides. The handle is formed by two cheeks made of bone and attached to the shank with two rivets. The head of the handle is in the form of the head of an eagle. T-shaped slot is located in head. The cross with the end bent back is decorated with an ornament in the form of oak leaves. Leather sheath, with a brass device consisting of a mouth with a hook and a tip. All metal parts of the bayonet are nickel plated.

On the cross and sheath there is often a designation of the police station or educational institution to which the bayonet and bayonet number were assigned. On the heel of the blade is the manufacturer's stamp, on the butt of the blade is a shortening stamp.

Total length (without scabbard) 440 mm. Blade length 323 mm.
