On the reverse there is an annular, resembling a ditch or trench, a depression about 4 mm wide. Because of this, this type of order received the nickname "ditch" from the Falerists. There is no mint stamp, the number is inscribed with a stichel at the bottom of the reverse (for 6 hours on the dial).
Established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 20, 1942. The Order of the Patriotic War is awarded to persons of ordinary and commanding personnel of the Red Army, the Navy, the NKVD troops and partisan detachments who showed courage, resilience and courage in the battles for the Soviet homeland, as well as servicemen who, by their actions, contributed to the success of the military operations of our troops.
