№121562Germany bayonet M 1914. Made by Bayard (Belgium)

Germany. Bayonet-knife of the 1914 model for rifles and carbines of the Mauser system of the 1898 model. Made by Bayard (Belgium)

The bayonet was produced in 1914 and 1915, when Germany was experiencing a severe shortage of bayonets of standard models and it was necessary to quickly fill it. In total, in October-November 1914, contracts were placed for about 1 million bayonets of the 1914 model, some of the orders were later canceled. A bayonet of the 1914 model was produced both in Germany itself and in the territory of recouped Belgium. The bayonet was also designated as a temporary model of the 1914 model (Interimseitengewehr 14) and simply as a bayonet of the 1914 model (Seitengewehr 1914).

The bayonet blade is single-edged, down on both sides. The fighting end is double-edged. The handle is formed by two wooden cheeks fastened to the shank by two screws or rivets. The hole for cleaning the slot in the handle is rectangular, located in the cheeks of the handle, next to the cross. Handle head has T-shaped groove with cylindrical expansion and spring latch with internal arrangement of spiral spring. The cross is short, straight. The scabbard is iron with a hook.

Bayard. The total length is 430 mm. Blade length 300 mm.
