№121451German bayonet Mauser M98/05

Germany. Bayonet-knife for rifles and carbines of the Mauser system, sample 1898 / 1905. "new type" with the monogram of Emperor Wilhelm II on the handle. Manufacturer - Waffenfabrik Mauser- A.G. Obendorf a N.

A modified version of the bayonet of the 1898/1905 model to the rifle of the Mauser system of the 1898 model. The modification consisted in shortening the legs of the crosspiece and adding a protective plate to the back of the handle for use with the Mauser system carbine (K98a), whose muzzle section with the bayonet attached was located above the handle, which led to damage to the cheeks when fired. The bayonet of the new model was produced from the end of 1915.

The blade of the bayonet is single-edged, with a dale on both sides and an extension in the lower third. The combat end is double-edged. The handle is formed by two wooden cheeks fastened to the shank with two screws. The hole for cleaning the groove in the handle is rectangular, located in the cheeks of the handle, next to the crosspiece. In the handle head there is a T-shaped groove with cylindrical expansion and a spring latch with an internal arrangement of a spiral spring. A crosspiece with the end bent back. The scabbard is made of iron with a hook and a ball at the end. On the heel of the blade there is usually a brand of the manufacturer. There are inspection acceptance stamps on the handle head, blade butt, crosspiece, button, screws and metal parts of the scabbard. On the back of the blade is a stamp with the monogram of the ruler and the year of adoption of the bayonet.

The total length is 500mm. The length of the blade is 368mm.
