The Catherine Railway is a special state-owned railway of the Russian Empire, built in 1882-1904. At the beginning of construction, the Krivorog railway was called, in modern sources the name Krivorozhskaya Railway is also found, later the name "Catherine" was given in honor of Empress Catherine II, during whose reign the Novorossiysk Territory (Wild Field) was annexed to Russia. In 1901, the Catherine Railway employed 34,510 people (employees and workers).
