In April 17, 1828, on the basis of the Regulations of the Committee of Ministers, approved by Emperor Nicholas I, the silver medal "For the Salvation of the Lost"was established. This medal was awarded to Russian citizens for saving people in various tragic circumstances: during fires, natural disasters, and the like.
